Connecting direct to a hotspot without a fitting?




1: When I do a wireless search I cannot see a hotspot

a) this means you are out of signal range (you will see a message like 'No wireless networks within range')

b) your wireless adapter is disabled

c) If you can normally see a hotspot from the place you are currently standing, then the hotspot is either not functioning and you should call or text CanaryNet support to advise them of this fact,

d) or your laptop is just having one of those days. First try rebooting your laptop and if you still cannot see your usual hotspot, please call or text CanaryNet Support on 651 106 769 or 651 386 021 10am-5pm Mon-Sat.


2:  I can see a CanaryNet Hotspot but when I try to connect to it I get 'connection failed' or 'cannot connect to network'.

a) sometimes this can be remedied by rebooting your laptop, or right clicking on your 2 monitor symbols in the bottom right of the screen and clicking 'Diagnose and repair'.  Allow the machine to either re-initialise the network adaptor or get a new IP address if it asks.  Try connecting again. 

b) the signal strength is not sufficient to maintain a connection, try to move closer to the hotspot to increase your signal strenth.  Look into either purchasing a wireless USB adaptor, or a CanaryNet fitting in order to get better reception.

3:  I can see a CanaryNet Hotspot but when I try to connect to it I get 'Limited or No Connectivity' and a small yellow triangle symbol.

a) sometimes this can be remedied by rebooting your laptop, or right clicking on your 2 monitor symbols in the bottom right of the screen and clicking 'Diagnose and repair'.  Allow the machine to either re-initialise the network adaptor or get a new IP address if it asks.  Try connecting again.
