CanaryNet Wireless are delighted to have launched their service of Wireless Hotspots in Lanzarote
CanaryNet Wireless are bringing their expertise and knowledge to the island of Lanzarote, our goal is to build an infrastructure of hotspots throughout the whole island
Below is a breakdown of our current coverage on the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura. If you are travelling to Fuerteventura it is worth noting that your CanaryNet Internet card is valid on ALL our hotspots where coverage is available.
You will find at least one CanaryNet Hotspot in the following areas at the time this page was published (October 2007).
We are currently underway with an expansion program, therefore all new hotspot locations will be updated on this website upon completion of installation.
Please check back soon to see if CanaryNet is now in your area if you cannot see it listed below, alternatively you could
E-mail us for news of current and future developments.

If you are struggling to connect to the CanaryNet system the most likely cause is that your wireless laptop is not 'recieving' enough signal, there are several options open to you to resolve this.
Option one is to buy a more powerful USB powered wireless adaptor, of a good quality, ideally one that you can put outside for better range.
Option two is to have an 'Access Point' fitted.
This involves us installing a small waterproof case in a high point such as your roof or wall that contains a 108mbps wireless receiver. Two cables will run from this box, one to a power supply and the other cable (ethernet) plugs directly into your PC's ethernet port, this gives you a guaranteed 'hardwire' connection and does away with any need for wireless adaptors etc. The cost of this fitted is 145€ incl.
Alternatively You can opt for a 'totally' wireless instalation which involves a secondary access point inside your house in a location of your choice, this gives you complete freedom as you can log onto this Access Point using your wireless enabled laptop, ideal if you wish to work on the patio or in another area of the house! This package costs 250€ incl.
For existing clients we are offering an upgrade to this system for 105€ incl.
Please note that the above is for residents or owners of holiday lets only.
The installation generally takes around 1 hour to complete depending on location.
The clear advantage of this system is you do not need to have a 'wireless-enabled' PC or laptop as it is linked by ethernet cable directly into your PC or workstation, (Think of it like this, its similar to getting good TV reception from an ariel fitted to your roof as opposed to a portable ariel sat on top of the TV, the one on the roof will always give a better reception).
After instalation your 24/7 internet connection will cost you just 30€ as an when you need it.
There is NO contract to tie you in knots..NO hidden extras.. NO line rentals..plus you get 'always on' broadband speed internet! One of the most innovative features of the CanaryNet system is that it is 'Pay As You Go'..when your 30 day card expires you can simply buy another or wait to renew it after payday or your holiday back to UK etc, there are NO penalties involved whatsoever, its your choice!
We operate on the Licence free 2.4GHz band and offer up to 108 Mbps using our installation kit.
CanaryNet does not use line sharing as this basically means that your speed is dependent upon the number of users online.
All our hotspot ADSL lines are re-routed to our high speed server and are dedicated solely to our wireless customers.
Each hotspot is independently run from a seperate line as we do not use repeaters which can cause losses of up to 50% of your transmission speed. We also steer clear of using amplifiers to 'boost' the signal strength, invariably the use of amps is illegal in many parts of the world, including Spain. The following extract on this subject is from Ciscopress.com
Wireless Amplifier Feature Decisions
Wireless network operators often add external bidirectional amplifiers to their wireless systems. External means that the amplifier is external to the wireless equipment. Bidirectional amplifiers actually contain two amplifiers: one to amplify the transmitter signal and one to amplify the incoming received signals.
In the United States, FCC regulations require that external power amplifiers be marketed and sold only as part of a complete legally certified radio-cable-amplifier-antenna combination. The purpose of this regulation is to minimize the use of illegal overpowered equipment. Excess transmitter power raises the noise level, increases interference, and makes it harder for other, legal networks to operate correctly. Unfortunately, some wireless WAN operators ignore this regulation and intentionally use external power amplifiers in violation of FCC regulations. This behavior can result in heavy fines and equipment confiscation and also decreases the usability of the license-free bands for everyone.
NOTE
Illegal amplifier use is not the answer to making your WAN operate over longer distances. Often, a power amplifier actually decreases the receiving range of your WAN. In addition, using illegally high transmitter power causes substantial interference to other network operators who are operating legally. Finally, if illegal amplifier use increases, the FCC might be forced to step in with new, more restrictive regulations that could reduce license-free operating privileges for everyone. Resist the urge to amplify. Proper wireless network design and proper antenna system design provides you with the best network performance.
